Born in 2001, Maarten Wilmink became fascinated with the organ at the age of 12. His concert schedule has since taken him to Germany, France, Austria, Italy and Lithuania, among other places. He played concerts in Notre-Dame in Paris, Innsbruck Cathedral and Udine Cathedral, among others, and became first prize winner of several organ competitions. As of January 2026, he has been appointed titular organist of the Cathedral Basilica St Bavo in Haarlem.
His organ studies began in 2014 with Louis ten Vregelaar and continued at the conservatoire in Rotterdam in 2019. Here he studied with Ben van Oosten and Zuzana Ferjenčíková. He also studied improvisation there with Hayo Boerema and completed his church music studies. Both his bachelor's and master's examinations for organ were graded with a 10 and he thus completed both summa cum laude. He is currently studying with Notre-Dame organist Vincent Dubois for the Konzertexamen Orgel in Saarbrücken (Germany).
Besides his solo concerts, he performs solo with orchestras and regularly accompanies choirs and ensembles. He also has a YouTube channel on which he publishes his own recordings. As a church musician, he has been associated with St Stephen's Church in Borne since 2022, where he has been appointed organist-conductor. For the period 2023-2024, he received a two-year appointment as organ scholar in Ratingen (Germany). On several occasions, he played during Masses broadcast live on NPO 2. Besides his activities as a performing musician, he is also active as a private organ teacher.
Maarten Wilmink was a prize winner at several organ competitions. He won first prizes at the SGO Organ Competition 2018 (Groningen), the Quintus Organ Competition 2021 (Kampen) and the Rino Benedet Organ Competition 2023 (Bibione (Italy)).
